How to Find Domain Names for Your New Business

It can be incredibly frustrating to come up with the perfect name for your new business, only to find that the domain name you want is not available.

The solution? NameMesh, the domain name generator.

After you enter a word or phrase, NameMesh will display a list of variations, including different domains (e.g. “.io”, “.services”, or .”agency”) and search engine optimized titles. The tool will also let you filter domains by availability and character length.  You’ll get a whole host of options which, even if you don’t like, might just provide the inspiration for a new name entirely.

If you don’t have a specific word or phrase that you want to include in your new business name, Naminum is a fantastic resource to get a few outside-of-the-box ideas. First, think of a few words you like the sound of and write them down (e.g. “Cerulean”, “Allude”, “Copper”). The more esoteric the words, the better. Then, plug your words one at a time into the Naiminum generator and you’ll get a list of words with different letters substituted in. Keep in mind that about 90% of the suggestions will be nonsensical gibberish, so try to quickly skim the list after each search. If you don’t find anything you like, try clicking the “Replace” and “Prepend” tabs.

If neither of the two above tools help you, you can always crowdsource some help. Dock Name allows you to describe your business and personality along with a budget for your new domain name. Members of the site will then submit ideas for you to review. The members will even vote on other people’s options, so you can see what popular favorites are.

Still can’t find anything you like? It might be time to try thinking of a few alternate ideas, in which case you should watch this free video called “How to Name Your Startup” by Jason Calacanis. In it, he shares valuable tips and tricks for thinking of a new business name.

Once you have a domain name in mind, the final step is to purchase it. We recommend NameCheap, as they usually have the cheapest prices, but GoDaddy is a good alternative. If you run into any problems or have any other questions, shoot us an email and we can help you at no cost.
